Job description

A medium/heavy duty bus dealership based in Pelham, Alabama is seeking an experienced Body Shop Technician to join our team. Qualifications/Experience:

Must Be 21 Years of Age
2 Years of Body Shop experience
High School Diploma or GED
Completion of a postsecondary program in automotive service technology a plus
I-CAR / ASE certifications preferred
PPG Certification preferred
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build long term trust and relationships with our customers
Application of in-depth Body Shop repair knowledge
Performs skilled mechanical work while analyzing and diagnosing problems
Inspect, replace and/or repair defective parts while performing preventative maintenance on Buses
Continuously learn new technical information and techniques to stay abreast with rapidly changing technology
Previous experience in bus/truck/auto service preferred but not required
Knowledge of electrical and engine repairs needed
Experience in CDK or other automotive dealership management software preferred
Basic arithmetic skills
Observant and meticulous
Customer-focused attitude with the ability to work well in a team environment
Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and information
Ability to operate and drive vehicles
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
Ability to pass a background check

Responsibilities

  • Complete disassembly of vehicle to assist Collision Estimators in assessing damage to prepare a 100% Repair Plan
  • Ensure all needed repairs identified to eliminate supplements and minimize repair time
  • Plan work procedure: follow work order for all operations listed
  • Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic windows, and seat operating equipment to gain access to damaged area of vehicle if needed. Store parts on carts or cover to eliminate potential damage
  • Mend damaged body by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts; ensure all gaps and fits are to industry standards; remove damaged panels and bolts or welds replacement parts in position and reassemble after parts are painted
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools (e.g. welder, soldering equipment, cutting torch, blocks, hammers, wrenches, sander, spray guns, etc.)
  • File, grind, and sand repaired surfaces before turning vehicle over to the Paint Dept.
  • Repair or replace defective parts
  • Ensure all needed repairs identified to eliminate supplements and minimize repair time
  • Inspect and test drive repaired vehicles to check for compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Comply with all Classic Collision standard operating procedures, safety, rules, and guidelines
  • Follow diagnostic repair plans as required by manufacturer
  • Meet/exceed service sales goals while providing superior service
  • Work in conjunction with parts department to order parts needed to complete repairs
  • Work with management to document customer repair plans in a timely manner once repairs are completed
  • Maintain a neat/clean appearance
  • Wearing safety gear and conducting work in a safe manner
  • Performing cost estimations and clearing these with customers before proceeding with work
  • Restoring vehicles to their original condition, or better, by repairing, replacing, and upgrading features of their exterior
  • Ensuring that each vehicle is roadworthy upon completion of the job
  • Returning vehicles to their owners

Physical Requirements:

Occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds
Be able to work with tools on vehicles lifted above their head
Requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials
Walk/stand for the majority of their workday
Efficiently navigate a computer
