Job Title: Controller

Classification: Salary, Exempt

Reports to: CFO

Objective: The Controller will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the Company’s financial records. They will also be responsible for the direct supervision of members of the accounting team.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee Payroll, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions of the business.
  • Directly supervise finance and administrative employees, including delegating tasks and responsibilities and performance management.
  • Process payroll, including calculating hours, commissions, bonuses, and ensuring proper filing of payroll taxes. Complete journal entries related to payroll, including proper allocations of employee wages, benefits, and accruals.
  • Assist CFO in risk management functions, including property and liability insurance, all employee benefits, including health insurance, ancillary insurances, and company retirement plans.
  • Ensure reconciliations for end of month/quarter/year are accurate and balanced including, cash, bank accounts, bank loans, customer deposits, warranty, credit card, and accounts receivable.
  • Maintain schedules for prepaids, accruals, and fixed assets. Post period-end journal entries as needed.
  • Coordinate all audit activities with outside CPA firm and assist with review of annual corporate tax returns.
  • Monitor compliance with debt covenants and other appropriate financial health ratios and recommend adjustments as appropriate.
  • Fixed Assets entry, reconciliation, and depreciation.
  • Ensure the company remains compliant with all taxing authorities and jurisdictions, including collection and remittance of taxes, and filing of required licenses and returns.
  • Lead the monthly financial reporting process, including financial package preparation, calculation and reporting of Key Performance Indicators, and other financial reporting to banks, vendors, and the board of directors.
  • Assist President/CFO with annual budget preparation, adjustments, and monthly tracking.
  • Complete all additional tasks required by the President and CEO, as needed.

  • Stay current on changes to GAAP, basic tax knowledge, as well as A/R, A/P and basic payroll knowledge.
  • Consistently work to grow and learn more about the equipment dealership business.
  • Assist and encourage growth of fellow employees by answering questions and teaching new tasks as needed.
  • Suggest and implement ideas to create personal and departmental efficiencies.
  • Anticipate problems and work to eliminate them before they happen.

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience
  • Team management and negotiation skills
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software
  • Familiarity with advanced formulas in MS Excel
  • Excellent analytical skills along with the ability to create and present detailed reports
  • Ability to accurately process numerical data

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business
  • CPA Preferred
