Reports to: Controller

Objective: The Staff Accountant is responsible for the functions the Accounting Department assigns. These functions may include accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, fixed assets, month-end and year-end procedures, inventory, reporting, and assisting with HR functions, among others. The Staff Accountant/HR is an integral member of the Accounting Team, ensuring timeliness and accuracy of the financial recordkeeping for Transportation South. This person should strive to be a wealth of knowledge for all others within Transportation South, welcoming requests for information and assistance and following through on those requests as soon as possible.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and post monthly recurring journal entries.
  • Assist with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
  • Fixed assets management.
  • Month-End procedures – Reconciliations, reports, financials statement prep, etc.
  • Year-End procedures – Review and Tax support (1099’s).
  • Assist with monthly sales tax filing.
  • Support Controller with other ad hoc reporting.
  • Provide support and guidance to AP/AR clerk.
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather information necessary for accounting records.
  • Assist with new employee onboarding – New employee paperwork and background checks, benefits enrollment, payroll setup, etc.
  • Support managers with employee performance management, annual reviews, hiring, and other HR needs.
  • Assist employees with company policy, employee benefits, leave of absence, work comp, and other HR needs.
  • Assist with weekly payroll processing.
  • Respond to calls or emails from Transportation South employees for assistance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • High degree of attention to detail and multi-tasking
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or 2 – 4 years’ experience in accounting.
